Agathe Bounfour is a Senior Researcher on Fossil Fuels in the Environment and Human Rights division at Human Rights Watch. Previously an investigative journalist, her work has documented how scientific disinformation and influence strategies from the fossil fuel industry have derailed climate and health policies. She has extensive experience investigating global energy supply chains and their impacts on both climate and human rights, as well as working on decarbonization strategies for industrial sectors, including transportation.

Agathe has written for Follow the Money, DeSmog, The Guardian, and Source Material, and has led multiple NGO investigations in collaboration with media partners such as Le Monde, Il Fatto Quotidiano, and Der Spiegel.

As a climate and energy expert, she has led research and advocacy programs at environmental NGOs like the Climate Action Network and Greenpeace. Trained in social and political sciences at the London School of Economics and the Institute of Political Studies in Strasbourg, her work is grounded in analyzing the social and political roots of the climate crisis. Native French, she is fluent in English, Spanish and speak a little Arabic.
